Gratitude Journal

Why Start A Gratitude Journal?

A concept that’s brand new to most people is a gratitude journal. In fact, few have ever heard this term before. But, once you learn the many ways in which doing this form of journaling can help you, you’ll never think twice about not doing it again.

Far too many of us go about our day to day lives always focusing on the negative, taking stock of what we don’t have or where our shortcomings are.

A gratitude journal aims to help you avoid getting into this harmful rut.

Let’s take a closer look.

What Is A Gratitude Journal

A gratitude journal is a journal where you log all the things that you are thankful for.

What makes you happy in your life? What do you feel you've been blessed with?

What gives you energy to face each day?

This could be things such as people – the close relationships you have with loved ones, a job that excites and constantly challenges you or it could be something as simple as having your health or having food on the table.

How It Will Help You

So how does a gratitude journal help you?

First, it helps you keep your own life in perspective. Remember, there are many people in the world who do not have basic things like a dinner to eat in the evening or a warm bed to sleep on during the night.

When you feel like your day just couldn't get any worse, it helps to remind yourself of this. No matter how bad you feel like you have it, there are people out there who have it worse.

As soon as you realize this, you’ll start appreciating what you do have more than you did before. This in turn helps shift your entire thought processes around.

Now, instead of feeling as though you are someone with all these shortcomings and problems in life, you’ll come to see that you’re actually someone who is very blessed and should be thankful because of that.

This may help you not look at problems as you did before. Rather than ruminating in a problem, making it out to be far bigger than it really is, you’ll be able to quickly move past it.

You’ll be able to recognize it for what it is, but see that in the grand scheme of things, it really is not that big of a deal.

Remember that your daily experiences are very much derived by what you think of them. Two people can experience the exact same situation or event, but depending on their own personal mindset, may react very differently.

The goal of a gratitude journal is to get you reacting in a favorable way – one that enriches your own life experience rather than tears you down.

When you live in this manner, you’ll come to find that any goal you set out to reach just becomes that much easier. So give gratitude journaling some thought. Start today and you’ll be noticing the difference it makes in no time.
